So you’re having a girl! How exciting. Now it’s time to plan for you latest addition, and first off, it’s time to decorate your baby girl’s nursery.
Designing a nursery doesn’t come easy to a lot of people. There are so many trends, color schemes, and designs to choose from – in fact, planning for a baby girl doesn’t necessarily mean buying everything pink anymore! (Although there’s certainly nothing wrong with that).
If you’d like to think outside of the box, consider leading with a bold print, like a zebra crib bedding set. This one from Sweet Jojo Designs is very popular for baby girls. It’s certainly non-traditional but it still has the cuteness akin to baby girls. Consider matching the bedding set with a pink zebra hamper, perfect for all those changings your bound to make in the middle of the night. But if you’d like to mix in something without the print, we’d recommend a solid pink, like this Butterfly Pink and Orange Fabric Memo Board, perfect for hanging all of the photos you’ll take of your precious baby girl.
If you opt for a bold print on your bedding set, we recommend going with a solid color on your walls. Too many patterns could make you dizzy! A good idea is to choose a soft, neutral color for your walls, like cream or off-white. Then, you can match your curtains to the bedding without going overboard on your themed color or pattern.
What do you think? Do you prefer softer designs for your nurseries, or do you opt for the bold and the beautiful? Take to our Facebook Page and share your baby girl nursery photos!

When your baby starts climbing out of the crib on their own you know its time to switch from the crib to the toddler bed. This transition is a big step in a child’s life and if you aren’t careful it can lead to sleepless nights and a cranky baby. Here are some important tips to keep in mind as you make the switch.
-
Wait Until Your Child is Ready- Don’t rush making the switch. Many children stay in their cribs until they almost 3, or even older. Once your child is potty trained, you should consider switching or if they are very active and could injure themselves in the crib. Otherwise wait until they are ready. There is no need to rush your child into a bed.
-
Be Careful if Switching for Baby- If you are putting your child into a bed so that you can use the crib for a new baby, be very careful. Children tend to get very attached to their crib and may become jealous or resentful of a new baby if they see them taking over their crib and their parent’s attention at the same time. Make sure that you keep your child’s feelings in mind and that you realize that the arrival of a new baby can be a very stressful time especially when combined with new sleeping arrangements.
-
Let Them Help You Choose- Your child is much more likely to enjoy their new bed if they have some input into the bed that is selected. Of course, don’t give them complete freedom to choose the new bed or they might not choose a safe bed or one that is in your budget. Instead choose 2 or 3 beds that you could be happy with and let your child make the final choice. They may also like their new bed more if you let them choose the theme of their toddler bedding.
-
Be Patient- Switching from a bed to a crib will take time and you need to be patient throughout the process. As you start introducing the new bed to your child let them bring along favorite toys and don’t force them to sleep in the bed until they are ready.
Your baby is growing up. Switching from a crib into a toddler bed is a big step in your child’s life. By following these tips you can have a successful transition and can enjoy watching your child become more independent.

When buying baby bedding, always insist on the following:
1. Affordability. This is definitely your number one priority when shopping for baby bedding. After all, you need at least two sets (young babies manage to wet and soil bedding even when wearing a diaper!) so cost is a major factor.
2. Quality. As much as you want to save, quality is obviously very important when it comes to crib bedding. Ideally, you want a combination of quality and affordability. In other words, you want value.
3. Softness. Babies’ skin is very sensitive. You want your baby to be cool and comfortable when she sleeps. The last thing you want it to put her to sleep on a scratchy sheet that will keep her up!
4. Uniqueness. Are you tired of baby bedding sets that all look the same? We are too! Decorating the nursery is fun, and part of that is the bedding. You don’t want your baby’s room to look exactly like hundreds, or thousand, of other rooms.
5. Beauty. When you purchase baby bedding you want rich colors and beautiful designs. Why should you compromise on less, when beautiful, affordable designs are available to you?
6. Ease of Care. This one is HUGE. If this is not your first baby, you already know that doing loads upon loads of laundry is part of life with a baby. If this is your first child, just trust us – you want those sheets to be washable, machine dryable and as wrinkle free as possible when you remove them from the dryer.
7. 100% Cotton. Cotton will keep your baby cool and comfortable and will help avoid perspiring and overheating. It’s the ideal fabric, regardless of the season.
8. Part of the General Room Décor . If you can find baby bedding sets that coordinate with your general nursery décor, that would make your life super easy. Some baby bedding designers, such as Sweet Jojo Designs (LINK), offer general décor items that match their bedding sets.

Decorating the nursery is so much fun, and a big part of it is buying cute crib bedding. The crib tends to be the center of attention in most nurseries, so getting the best crib bedding obviously becomes an important part of decorating your baby’s room.
When choosing crib bedding, you obviously want bedding that looks great, but you should remember that quality is important too. Your most important consideration is of course safety: crib bedding must fit the crib mattress snugly. Therefore, it’s important to avoid buying flimsy sheets that won’t stay put, or using crib sheets that are too large or too small. Check the size before you wash the bedding, so that you can return it if it’s the wrong size.
When it comes to baby bedding fabric, cotton is the best choice for several reasons:
-
Cotton crib bedding is generally machine washable. The last thing you want is to deal with hand washing when you have a baby. Crib bedding absolutely must be machine washable (check the label before buying), and ideally, you should also be able to tumble dry it. While most labels will instruct you to wash in cold water, I have found that washing in warm water is fine, and gets tough stains out better than a cold setting.
-
Cotton crib bedding is soft. Cotton is softer than synthetic fabrics. Synthetics may have a slightly rough or scratchy feel. Babies have extremely delicate skin and need the softest bedding to avoid skin irritation. In addition, cotton will do a better job of helping your baby to stay cool and avoid overheating and sweating.
-
Cotton is great if your baby has eczema. Unfortunately, a growing number of children are born with eczema each year. If your baby suffers from eczema, it’s imperative that her skin does not become irritated. Along with using gentle, fragrance-free soaps and detergents and moisturizing her skin often, you should use cotton baby bedding – it is breathable and soft, which makes it gentler on the skin than synthetic fabrics.
-
Cotton crib bedding is affordable. You can go the designer route of course and purchase high thread count, designer baby bedding, but generally speaking, cotton crib bedding is very affordable, which means you can easily buy several crib sheets – and this is important, since your baby will make countless messes during those first few months!
The bottom line: when looking for crib bedding, make sure you focus on quality first, and don’t settle for bedding that looks great but is of a lower quality. Cotton crib bedding usually offer the best value, because it is affordable and suited for a baby’s delicate skin. Try to stay away from synthetic fabrics, regardless of how pretty they are.
