The way we see it, the perfect baby gift has to be affordable, practical and beautiful. When selecting baby gifts, we insist on all three! So while a box of diapers would answer the first two requirements (affordable and practical), it does not answer the third, so cannot be considered a perfect baby gift.

On our last post, we have discussed the need many of us feel to be stylish even though we’re now moms. This has inspired us to briefly discuss fashion. While this is admittedly not a fashion blog, it IS a blog that caters to moms and discusses issues that preoccupy moms, and the topic of finding clothes that are cute and stylish, yet comfortable, and preferably affordable, is always a hot topic with moms.
Our own belief is that “jeans and a T-shirt” is a fine choice for moms, especially because the jeans can be stylish, and the T-shirt can be cute and flattering. We’re not big fans of the “sweats and T-shirt” look though. It’s unflattering for most women (and men!), so even if you haven’t lost the baby weight yet, we think it’s better to wear a larger-size “real” pants than choose sweats.
One of our favorite outfits for moms is boot-cut, dark wash, mid-rise jeans – these are classic, timeless, and flattering on almost any figure; a cute tee with cap sleeves or bell sleeves; and ballet flats. For comfort, it’s best if the flats are not completely flat but rather have a 0.5-inch heel, and you should also make sure they feature a padded sole.
The outfits featured in the photo above are both from Bluefly.com, so despite being designer outfits, they’re not very expensive (about $150 for an entire outfit). Both are practical, comfortable, and stylish!
If designer clothes, even on sale, are out of your budget, don’t forget that Target now offers a wonderful line of clothes for women, including many classic, stylish options.
Whether “being stylish” is a top priority for you or not, it’s good to know that there ARE options out there for moms who would like to find a way to incorporate “sensible,” “fabulous” and “affordable” into a single outfit.

When that tiny baby is born, your priorities shift, and rightly so. There’s nothing more important than the health and safety of your baby, and your own needs do take second place. But even though you’re now a mom, you’re also a person, and a woman, and in fact taking care of yourself and being happy with yourself will help you to be a better mom.
When it comes to style, it’s really up to you. Whether we are moms or not, being stylish is a top priority for some of us, while others couldn’t care less. This is fine! Totally your choice. But if you happen to be one of the women who care a lot about style, parenting is going to present some unique challenges.
You probably already know that becoming a mom does not HAVE to equal changing to a “sensible” hairstyle, wearing sensible shoes and “mom jeans.” There ARE options out there that are fabulous just as much as they are comfortable, and – this goes without saying – machine washable!
But what about that giant diaper bag? Do you have to use one of those bulky, ugly things from now on? Not at all! You can find stylish, pretty diaper bags, so pretty in fact that even when you don’t need to use a diaper bag anymore, you will still use them as a beach tote, or for shopping and running errands.
